Stripe takes 2.9% plus 30 cents from a payment on a Canadian card.

Stripe fee = payment × 2.9% + CA$0.30
you keep = payment − Stripe fee

On a CA$100 payment, 2.9% is CA$2.90. Adding the 30 cent fixed fee makes CA$3.20, so you keep CA$96.80. Stripe charges per successful payment, and its Canadian page lists no setup or monthly fee on standard pricing.

A card from outside Canada adds 0.8%, a card typed in by hand adds 0.5%, and a currency conversion adds 2%.

Stripe's Canadian page lists the three as additions to the 2.9%, and they stack. A CA$100 payment that needs all three costs CA$6.50, about double the CA$3.20 on a Canadian card. The 30 cents does not change.

"Converted" adds Stripe's 2% for a currency conversion. Rates read 17 October 2026.

The fixed 30 cents takes 9.0% of a CA$5 payment and 2.96% of a CA$500 one.

The 30 cents is charged on every payment whatever its size, so small payments lose the most to fees. The percentage stays at 2.9%.

The 2.9% stays the same; the 30 cents does not shrink.

Canadian bank debits cost 1% plus 40 cents, and the fee stops at CA$5.00.

Stripe's Canadian bank debits (PAD) take the payment from the customer's bank account. The CA$5.00 cap is reached on a CA$460 payment. With 250 customers paying CA$60 a month, card fees come to CA$510.00 a month and bank debit fees to CA$250.00, CA$260.00 less. Stripe also charges CA$1.00 for each instant bank account verification and CA$5.00 for each failed or disputed debit.

To receive an exact amount, add the 30 cents and divide by what the 2.9% leaves.

amount to charge = (amount you want + CA$0.30) ÷ (1 − 2.9%)

To keep CA$100 from a Canadian card payment, charge (CA$100 + CA$0.30) ÷ 0.971, which is CA$103.30. Stripe's fee on CA$103.30 is CA$3.30, and CA$100 is left.
