Stripe takes 1.65% plus 30 cents from a payment on an Australian card, GST included.

Stripe fee = payment × 1.65% + A$0.30
you keep = payment − Stripe fee

On an A$100 payment, 1.65% is A$1.65. Adding the 30 cent fixed fee makes A$1.95, so you keep A$98.05. Stripe's page says the fee already includes GST, so nothing is added on top.

A card issued outside Australia pays 3.5% plus 30 cents, more than twice the domestic percentage.

On A$100, an international card costs A$3.80 against A$1.95 on an Australian card. If the payment also needs a currency conversion, Stripe adds 2%, which takes the international fee to A$5.80. Stripe's page also says lower international card pricing takes effect from 1 April 2027, without giving the new rate yet.

"Converted" adds Stripe's 2% for a currency conversion. Rates read 17 October 2026.

Pricing in Australian dollars avoids the 2%: an Australian card charged in US dollars costs A$3.95 on A$100 instead of A$1.95. Tick "Currency conversion needed" in the calculator to see it on your own amount.

The fixed 30 cents takes 7.60% of an A$5 payment and 1.71% of an A$500 one.

The 30 cents is the same on every payment, so a coffee-sized sale pays far more of its value in fees than a large one. The percentage part stays at 1.65% whatever the size.

The 1.65% stays the same; the 30 cents does not shrink.

PayTo and BECS Direct Debit cost 1% plus 30 cents, and the fee stops at A$3.50.

Both take the payment straight from the customer's bank account. The A$3.50 cap is reached on an A$320 payment, so a larger payment costs the same. With 300 customers paying A$49 a month, card fees come to A$333.00 a month and PayTo or BECS fees to A$237.00, A$96.00 less.

Zip costs 5.49% plus 30 cents, almost three times an Australian card payment.

Zip lets the customer pay in instalments over time. Stripe charges 5.49% + A$0.30, GST included, so an A$100 sale costs A$5.79, against A$1.95 on a card. On an A$1,000 sale the fee is A$55.20.

To receive an exact amount, add the 30 cents and divide by what the 1.65% leaves.

amount to charge = (amount you want + A$0.30) ÷ (1 − 1.65%)

To keep A$100 from an Australian card payment, charge (A$100 + A$0.30) ÷ 0.9835, which is A$101.98. Stripe's fee on A$101.98 is A$1.98, and A$100 is left.

On an A$100 card payment, PayPal's advanced card rate costs 15 cents less than Stripe, and Square's online rate 25 cents more.

PayPal's Australian fee page lists 1.5% + A$0.30 for advanced card payments and 2.9% + A$0.30 for a payment from a PayPal account. Square charges 2.2% online with no fixed fee, so Square costs less than Stripe on small online sales and more on large ones.
