Capgo Review: What It Is, Pricing and Capgo vs Capawesome

A one-line fix to a mobile app can take days to reach users, because every release waits for an app store review. Capgo exists to skip that wait for the web part of a Capacitor app. This review covers what it does, what it costs and how it compares with Capawesome.

What is Capgo?

Capgo describes itself as "the open-source live update platform for Capacitor apps". If you change your app's JavaScript, HTML, CSS or assets, Capgo delivers the new bundle to devices directly. Changes to native code still go through the app stores.

On 14 October 2026 its home page counted 9,400+ teams, 90M+ devices and 3,143+ GitHub stars. Beyond live updates, every plan also includes native iOS and Android builds, notifications and release monitoring.

How a Capgo live update works

1. InstallAdd the open-source updater plugin to your app once.
2. UploadSend a new web bundle with the CLI and pick a channel.
3. DeliverThe app checks Capgo in the background and downloads the bundle.
4. Apply or roll backThe update applies on the next launch. If it fails to load, the app rolls back.

Three features do most of the work:

• Channels. Send a build to production, beta or internal users separately, and roll out in stages.
• Rollback. If an update fails to load, the app returns to the last version that worked.
• Signed and encrypted bundles. Capgo says bundles are checksummed, signed and encrypted end to end before they reach a device.

Who founded Capgo?

Capgo was founded by Martin Donadieu, who started it in 2021. Its About page says the company is bootstrapped and operated by Digital Shift OÜ in Tallinn, Estonia, with a small remote team. The plans list "human support from Martin" as a feature.

What does Capgo cost?

Capgo charges by usage, not by seat. Every plan includes unlimited apps and team members, and starts with a 14-day free trial that needs no credit card. These were the prices on capgo.app on 14 October 2026.

A monthly active user is one device that checks Capgo for updates in a rolling 30 days. When you reach a plan's limit, new update downloads pause and the app keeps running its current version. Capgo says it never charges for extra usage without your confirmation.

There is no permanent free plan on the pricing page. The updater plugin is open source, and Capgo says teams can host it themselves.

How does Capgo compare with Capawesome?

Capawesome is the closest rival for Capacitor teams. These are the monthly prices on each company's own pricing page on 14 October 2026.

Both are cheaper paid yearly, and each company counts active users in its own way. Capawesome also sells live updates on their own, from $9 a month, and says it is Ionic's official partner for teams moving off Appflow.

Two older options are on the way out, by Capgo's own account. Its About page says Ionic is winding Appflow down, with existing customers able to use it until 31 December 2027, and that Microsoft CodePush is in legacy mode.

Is Capgo worth it?

For a team on Capacitor, yes. $14 a month buys the ability to repair a broken release the same day, and the open-source plugin means you can see what runs inside your app. Try it for the 14 days before you pay.
